Joseph Swann House

On the area of the map marked in red sits a property once owned by Joseph Swann who lived there with his wife Mary. The property still exists today.

The section of Elder Lane that runs from The Tentas to Joseph’s house was formally known as Swann Lane, and the land opposite as Swann’s meadow. Perhaps a sign of Joseph’s prominence in the village at the time.

Joseph was born in 1761 and died in 1848 at the age of 87. His gravestone can be found in Griffydam Cemetery.
